2023-2024 U15 Tryout Information

For the 2023-2024 Season, Dartmouth Whalers Minor Hockey is projecting to host 4 competitive teams at the U15 Division.  Based on our registration numbers for U15, Dartmouth Whalers will be hosting the following 4 teams:

• 1 - U15 AA
• 2 - U15 A
• 1 - U15 B

Our 2-deep volunteers will be in the dressing rooms 30 minutes prior to the scheduled ice time. Players will not be permitted into the dressing room before that time. We encourage players to come 45 minutes before their scheduled ice time to give our jersey volunteers time to distribute jerseys, but again, no players will be permitted into the dressing room until 30 mins prior.

Players trying out for both the U15 AAA (formerly known as Major bantam) and DWMHA U15 AA. As you probably are aware there are conflicts in times between the U15 Major and U15 Minor tryouts due to changes HNS made this year. There are a few dates that conflict, when a conflict happens, players that are still part of the major tryout process you are to attend major tryouts. For the dates that there is not a conflict with Minor tryout time, players are to attend our U15 AA tryouts.

September 22, 2023 U15 AA & U15 Tryout Schedule Update

A reminder that ice times for Saturday September 23rd are cancelled.   

A reminder that Monday ice times will be two 1.5 hour practices.  Players will be given jerseys to wear but no evaluation will be done.  The group lists for these two ice times will be posted no later than Sunday September 24th

September 16, 2023 9:55PM***TRYOUT UPDATE - Sunday Sept 17th Ice Times **

As of right now, we are planning to go ahead with our ice times for Sunday Sept 17 as it was originally scheduled.

Tomorrow morning we will be confirming the RBC Center has power and will post and send out an update around 7am Sunday morning to confirm ice times are a go (see below schedule)

All U15 Players listed on the Saturday 3:15 PM roster are to report to rink for the 12:15 Intersquad and all players listed on the Saturday 4:45PM Roster are to report to the rink for the 1:45PM intersquad. After monitoring the latest updates on weather and due to HRM requesting all HRM residents to stay off the roads for non essential travel, all ice times scheduled for today, Saturday September 16th have been cancelled.

An update on ice times scheduled for Sunday September 17 will be sent out by 7am Sunday morning

September 14, 2023  *****IMPORTANT UPDATE & REVISED SCHEDULE*** for U15AA Tryouts 

After monitoring the latest updates and assessing the situation with Hurricane Lee this weekend, it has been decided that due to the weather forecast, we are changing the Tryout process for this weekend’s ice times only.  We will not be doing the skill sessions that were scheduled for Saturday September 16^th and instead we will be going right into intersquad games as per the new schedule below.  

Please see below for Revised Schedule and Roster for Saturday.  Players registered for U15 B tryouts only DO NOT attend intersquad on Sept 16.

September 12, 2023 - U15 AA /A /B 2023 Tryouts Information and Schedule

At the bottom of this page you will find the U15AA/A Tryout schedule for the 2023-2024 Season as well as a link to the groupings for the skills session.  ALL U15 Players trying out for AA, A and B levels are to attend this first session.  After this first session, players participating in B tryouts only, the second session for these tryouts will be held Saturday September 30th

ATTENTION Players trying out for both the U15 AAA (formerly known as Major bantam) and DWMHA U15 AA.

We require volunteers to help out with check in for players, washing jerseys in between sessions as well as helping out with Two Deep in dressing rooms / ON Bench (MUST HAVE valid Criminal Record Check with VSC on file with Hockey Canada) If you would like to volunteer and have not already signed up please click on the below link to sign up to help.

 Also please take a moment to review the DWMHA Tryout policy at the link below (Can be found on the Tryout Page under the Season Start up on the Main Menu). We will be also sending out more information later in the week regarding the tryout process so please keep a watch for it.

 DWMHA Tryout Policy

 A few things to note/ remember for your players:

• Players will be provided a jersey for each session that they will get when they check in and will pass in before leaving each session, please remind your player to turn the jersey in.
• Please ensure your Player is at the rink and checked in no later than 30 minutes prior to ice time start. This will allow them enough time to check in, receive a tryout jersey, get dressed and be ready to hit the ice 10 minutes prior to their ice time start so we can get the groups organized.
• Please ensure your player has a water bottle, hydration is very important, and they will definitely require it.
• Players are to wear plain white or dark socks, Whalers / AtoMc games socks ONLY no spring / summer team socks.

It’s a fun time of the year but also a stressful time. To best support the players trying out over the next few weeks we ask all parents to keep the following in mind:

1.       Be supportive of the players who are trying out

2.       Support the evaluators by letting them evaluate with no interruptions and respect the rules of where spectators are allowed

3.       Have the player on time for each session

4.       Enjoy the day and be there to cheer all players on!

Also a few reminders for all spectators:

• For all Skill Sessions and Intersquad games, Spectators will only be allowed on the downstairs level at RBC for all Rinks (Pad A, B, and C)
• For Exhibition games in Rink C ONLY, spectators will be allowed to watch from upstairs. Spectators must sit in the designated area and must stay away from all evaluators. All other rinks, A & B, spectators will only be allowed to watch from the downstairs level, no spectators will be allowed upstairs.

The first ice time will be a skills session to evaluate the players. Players will be grouped by position. (please check grouping link below to verify your player is registered for tryouts)
