How to Become a Coach

Those interested in fulfilling the role of Coach or Assistant Coach should review the below information and requirements of any volunteer involved with Minor Hockey Associations in Canada

 

1. Create a Hockey Canada login and then an ehockey profile.  Steps to do this in the new Hockey System can be found by clicking on below link

2.  Complete a Dartmouth Whalers Online Coaching Application

Submit your application by completing the above form.
To be considered in good standing for a coaches interview, each member should have all required checks already completed or applications in progress with the appropriate authorities and communinty agencies. 

If updating your checks, please go to Volunteer Certification Information page to see both options, MyBackcheck & In person with HRP, on how to reequest this and if doing it in person, there is also a volunteer letter that can be used to reduce the cost when requesting a criminal check from the Halifax Regional Police.

Interviews for the coaching candidates will be done and make a recommendation to the Whalers Board of Directors for final decision. The committee's recommendation is based on membership in good standing, up to date coaching qualifications, experience, and coaching background with the Whalers and demonstrated leadership ability.

3. Please review the qualifications chart in the link below to ensure you are properly trained and ensure you sign up early for any required courses & clinics listed below you may not have but are required for the level you are requesting to coach
