The Dartmouth Whalers are excited to share an update on the search for a Technical Director! After careful consideration of many highly qualified people, the selection committee and Board approved an innovative team approach to our development plan for this year.  Spearheaded by Andrew Wigginton, the following coaches will be utilized to their strengths as we plan for many specialized sessions throughout the 2025-2026 season.  We would like to welcome Andrew and his team and look forward to the huge benefit this collaboration will have on our players!

Chris Donnelly has been the Head Coach and Hockey Camp Director of the Dalhousie Men’s Hockey Team for past 15 years and was the Halifax Moosehead’s Associate Coach for 11 years.  He was the Assistant Coach of the Truro Bearcats Junior A and Dartmouth Subways U18 AAA.  A former Dartmouth Whaler Head Coach for 4 years of the U11 AAA, he also spent one year as Head Coach of the Brookfield Junior B team. Chris was a Hockey Nova Scotia High Performance Coach for U17 and U16 programs for multiple years as well as two Canada Games teams in 2003 and 2011.  His other credentials include being a Hockey Canada Course Conductor and High-Performance Presenter.

Tony Breau is a dedicated Hockey Development Coach with a passion for growing the game and helping players reach their full potential. He is a former Whaler who also played at the Major Midget and Junior A levels.  With over 20 years of experience coaching at all age groups and skill levels, Tony focuses on skill development, game IQ, and player confidence. Known for a hands-on, high-energy coaching style, Tony blends technical training with personalized feedback to foster both performance and love for the game.

Evan Cheverie has been on staff with Dartmouth Whalers U15 Majors as an Assistant Coach for the past two seasons. He has previously coached in Cole Harbour at the U9, U11 and U13AAA levels. Before his coaching career, Evan played 13 professional seasons in the AHL, ECHL and Europe. Prior to his professional career he played 4 years of NCAA hockey at Miami (Ohio) University serving as the team’s assistant captain from 2000-2002.

Jack Flaman is originally from Vibank, Saskatchewan, growing up on a dairy farm before leaving home at 14 to pursue his passion for hockey. He played four seasons in the Western Hockey League before continuing at Acadia University, where he earned both a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Education while competing for five years in U SPORTS hockey. Following his playing career, he turned his focus to coaching and development. He began at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Saskatchewan, serving first as an assistant coach with the U18 AAA program before stepping into the role of Head Coach for the U15 Prep team. He is excited to continue his coaching journey and looks forward to contributing to the growth of Halifax minor hockey while getting to know the community both on and off the ice.

Keifer House is a Progressive Coach with experience at the University (USport), High Performance, Major U18, Major U15 and all youth levels, coaching both male and female athletes. Keith has been employed as a professional hockey instructor dealing with player agencies, hockey schools, clinics, camps and private training sessions. His experience includes working with players from all levels, professional through minor hockey, and developing clear objectives, goals and plans within the framework of an athlete development model. Keith has studied sport, its impact on the participants, including the positive physical, educational, social, and psychological benefits that sport creates.

Jonah Leroux played in the OHL for five seasons and then decided to move to the East Coast to pursue an education and play Usports hockey for the Dalhousie Tigers. After playing three seasons with the Dalhousie Tigers, Jonah fell in love with the East Coast and decided to find employment and call Dartmouth home. Jonah currently works for the HRM fire department, and loves to give back, coaching hockey in his spare time at the minor hockey level and as the skating coach of the Halifax Mooseheads. Jonah looks forward to helping each player with skating and many other skills as they progress through their minor hockey experience with the Dartmouth Whalers.

Andrew Shewfelt was born and raised in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and is a proud alumnus of the Dartmouth Whalers Minor Hockey Association. After playing U18 Major in both Cole Harbour and Dartmouth, he began his QMJHL career which included three seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads, and one season with the Drummondville Voltigeurs. As hard of a worker in the classroom as he is on the ice, Andrew’s next steps brought him to Dalhousie University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree while playing for the Tigers. He was named an Academic All-Canadian 4 times. Following his studies, Andrew made the jump to professional hockey which included seasons in the ECHL (USA), SPHL (USA), FFHG D1 (France), and most recently in the NIHL (United Kingdom). During his off-seasons, Andrew has been involved in youth sport, providing off-ice training to minor hockey players along with coaching spring and summer camps. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education at Mount Saint Vincent University.
